Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), is emerging as a strong candidate to replace Jay Shah as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This move is contingent on Shah assuming the role of Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). While Shah has yet to file his nomination for the ICC position, growing support within the BCCI suggests that Rohan Jaitley, son of the late politician Arun Jaitley, is being considered as his successor.

Rohan Jaitley: The Leading Candidate for BCCI Secretary

According to reports, Rohan Jaitley is widely seen as the frontrunner for the position of BCCI Secretary. His candidacy is gaining traction, particularly within BCCI circles, where officials are rallying behind him for the role. The position became vacant after Jay Shah, who has held the post since 2019, was expected to transition to the ICC chairmanship.

Though there are other potential candidates, including former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya, Punjab's Dilsher Khanna, Goa's Vipul Phadke, and Chhattisgarh’s Prabhtej Bhatia, Jaitley stands out as the leading choice. His growing influence in cricket administration makes him the ideal candidate for the role, should Shah move to the ICC.

Will Jay Shah Become the ICC Chairman?

The speculation around Jay Shah's future intensified when Greg Barclay, the current ICC Chairman, announced that he would step down at the end of his third term in November 2025. Shah is seen as the likely candidate for the role, having the support of 15 out of 16 ICC Board members. With the nomination deadline approaching on August 27, 2025, Shah must decide whether to make the move.

If Shah proceeds with his nomination, he would become the youngest-ever ICC Chairman. This would be a significant step in his cricket career, following in the footsteps of Indian cricket legends like Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, and N. Srinivasan, who have held the prestigious role in the past.

What Happens Next in BCCI?

If Shah transitions to the ICC, Rohan Jaitley will likely take over as the BCCI Secretary, solidifying his position within Indian cricket administration. This change comes at a crucial time as the BCCI prepares for several major international tournaments and domestic reforms. With significant leadership shifts on the horizon, the coming months will be critical in shaping the future of Indian cricket governance.
